Secrets of the five districts of Old Lisbon
What to expect
To feel the atmosphere of old Lisbon, you need to go to conquer it on foot - only in this way, getting lost in the colorful streets, inhaling the aromas of coffee and freshly washed linen, catching the sounds of the yellow tram, and the cries of seagulls, you will be able to do it all, and while accompanied by my stories about the history and culture of the city, these impressions will take on depth and meaning.
Legendary Alfama
The walk will start under the Arc de Triomphe, from which we will go to the Place de l'Commerce. Here you will hear about the fall of the most powerful empire, about the ruined palace and the period of reconstruction of the city. Stroll through the narrow alleys of Alfama and see the brightly tiled walls. The picturesque viewpoint of Santa Luzia with panoramic views of the city of Odyssey will take you to the world of medieval legends. You will learn why Lisbon is called the city of 7 hills and where the name of the district comes from. I will tell you about the musical symbol of Portugal, fado, which was born here. And near the Cathedral - about the religiosity of the Portuguese, the spiritual patron of the capital and the local holiday of All Saints.
Colorful Mourari
In an area where expats from all over the world live, let's talk about how traditions are born. Looking at the colorful facades, you will learn about the "Portuguese Mudéjar" décor that came out of these quarters, combining the features of European and Islamic art. I will also show you the houses that survived the earthquake and the most beautiful house in Lisbon, decorated with azulejos.
Elegant Shiadoo
Once in this ornate neighborhood, you'll hear about a murderer-turned-saint and learn about the neighborhood's past, which over the centuries has been a haven for the urban poor, a center of religious life, and a favorite place for the intellectual elite. And near the café of Benard y Brasilera, we will talk about the history of iconic establishments and their visitors from high society.
Baixa and Rossio
In Baixa, of course, you will see the neo-Gothic city elevator of Santa Justa, but you will get to it by a secret path used by the locals. In Piazza Rossio, see the building of the station of the same name, discover the features of the architectural style of the 18th century pombalino and walk through the "calzada portuguesa" - a mosaic with a three-dimensional optical effect that adorns Rossio.
Interesting facts about Lisbon with a glass of wine I will be happy to show you my favorite place, where you can relax with a glass of delicate green wine or aromatic coffee against the backdrop of breathtaking landscapes. In the meantime, let's talk about the secrets of the city and its unusual corners. In addition, we will not overlook the Ginja cherry liqueur, the urban food market, where you can taste local wines: the famous Vignho Verd, Port wine, Madeira fortified wine. I will talk about the peculiarities of the production and consumption of drinks. Here you will also taste the most delicious pastel de nata in the city and find out how the locals eat them and why they are eaten this way.
